Tasyha Whitfield - Speight

Mrs. Tasyha S. Whitfield Speight, 56, of Walstonburg, North Carolina, formerly of Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

A celebration of her life and legacy will be held on Friday, July 3rd at 12:00 Noon at St. Delight MB Church, 341 Speights Bridge Rd Walstonburg, NC  27888. Pastor Charles Franklin will deliver the words of encouragement and Eldress Carolyn Ward will preside.

The Public Visitation will take place the same day from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon July 3rd, 2026 one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Delight Community Cemetery.

The family will meet at 2596 Speights Bridge Rd Walstonburg, NC at 11:00 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.

Obituary

Mrs. Tasyha S. Whitfield Speight was born on November 10, 1969, in Washington, D.C., to the late Thomas Whitfield and Ruby Louise White Whitfield. On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, service, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.

Tasyha was reared and educated in Washington, D.C., where she attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Harvey Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Pervis McKenney. She later united with New Samaritan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., where she faithfully served alongside her mother as a dedicated member of the Usher Board.

A woman of compassion and strength, Tasyha devoted many years of distinguished service to the Office of Unified Communications in Washington, D.C., as a 911 Dispatcher. Throughout her career, she remained a calming presence during life's most difficult moments, providing comfort, guidance, and assistance to countless individuals in times of crisis.

Although she was the only child of Thomas and Ruby Whitfield, Tasyha was richly blessed with an abundance of family and lifelong friendships. She was raised in a close knit neighborhood where extended family, caring neighbors, and devoted friends surrounded her with love, encouragement, and support. Those early relationships helped shape the compassionate, generous, and selfless woman so many came to know and love.

Committed to serving both her community and fellow veterans' organizations, Tasyha was an active and dedicated member of several civic and fraternal organizations. She faithfully served the American Legion Auxiliary Post 248 for more than five years, holding the office of Vice President. She was also a devoted member of the Datcher Chapter No. 7, Order of the Eastern Star; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 9619; the Fleet Reserve Club; and the Sidney Mudd Elks Lodge in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

In October 2022, Tasyha united in holy matrimony with Timothy B. Speight, affectionately known as "Puddin." Together they built a life centered on family and relocated to North Carolina.

Tasyha possessed a heart for hospitality and an extraordinary gift for cooking. Nothing brought her greater joy than preparing meals for family and friends, filling her home with delicious aromas, warm conversations, and lasting memories. Her radiant smile, gentle spirit, and generous heart left an unforgettable impression on everyone she encountered.

She also embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Pink was her favorite color, reflecting the warmth, elegance, and vibrant personality she carried so effortlessly. A devoted Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan throughout the years, she proudly supported her beloved team through every season and never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.

While her departure leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her family finds comfort in the promise of God's Word, knowing that she is absent from the body and present with the Lord, resting peacefully in the loving embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Tasyha was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Thomas Whitfield and Ruby Louise White Whitfield, and her cherished grandson, Legend Ah'mir Whitfield.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband, Timothy B. Speight; her beloved daughter, Symone Whitfield of Washington, D.C.; her cherished stepsons, TJ Speight of Greenville, North Carolina, and Tyrese Speight of Greensboro, North Carolina; her loving aunts, Linda Armstrong and Ina Parks; her uncles, Willie White and Alphonsa Whitfield; her beloved dog, Nikko, whom she loved dearly; and a host of cousins, extended family members and treasured friends.
