Ssgt. Sylvester Speight, Jr. 73, formerly of Walstonburg, NC passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at MacGregor Downs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Greenville, NC.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Temple of Jesus Christ, 1601 Bishop L. N. Forbes Street, Wilson, NC and burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1717 Bishop L. N. Forbes Street, Wilson, NC.  

The public visitation will be Friday, May 6, 2022, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.  At other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence of his sister, Linda Faye Artis, 7736 Gardners School Road, Stantonburg, NC where they will also meet on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Speight, Sr. and Florence Atkinson Speight and wife Geraldine E. Speight

Mr. Speight leaves a legacy of love and devotion to:  his sister, Linda Faye Artis of Saratoga; his brothers, Master SGT Ricky Speight (Portia) of Orlando, FL, Robert Speight (Mary) of Clinton, MD, SGT Ray Charles Speight (Rochelle) of LaGrange, NC, Timothy Speight (Fiance' Tasyha) of Walstonburg, NC, SFC Thomas Bullock (Anita) of Greenville, NC and Douglas Williams of Stantonsburg, NC; three aunts, Margaret Atkinson of Wilson, NC, Dora Pinkard of New Haven, CT and Carol Clay of Inglewood, CA; godbrothers, Tyrone Mitchell of Wilson, NC and Reginald Mitchell of Goldsboro, NC; three special neighbors, Mary Serafin, Robin Reeves and Darrell Reeves; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
