Rev. Kurton E. Harrison, Sr. Obituary

Rev. Kurton Everett Harrison Sr. was born on August 28, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan.  Memorial Services for Rev. Harrison were held Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Kurton was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather - the greatest melody of his life. Music lived in his soul, and throughout the city of Detroit his voice rose in harmony, as he sang alongside Wendell Spencer, leaving echoes of joy wherever he went.

He carried a light with him, filling every room with laughter, and warmth. A mentor to the youth and a pillar within the community, Kurton inspired others not just by his words, but by the way he loved freely, unconditionally, and with boundless joy.

At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was later baptized at Mount Charity Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education at Mackenzie High School and continued his studies at Highland Park Community College.

On February 16, 1974, Reverend Harrison was united in holy matrimony to Pamela Harrison. From this union, four children were born.

Reverend Harrison faithfully served as an Associate Pastor at Mt. Charity Missionary Baptist Church. Due to declining health, he relocated to Wilson, North Carolina in June 2009.

He leaves to cherish his memory four children: three sons, Kurton Harrison, Jr., David Harrison, and Justin Harrison, and one daughter, Serenity Harrison; four grandchildren: Kurton E. Harrison III, Kareem Harrison, Joyia Speight - Harrison, and Jamilah Speight; two brothers, Alex Harrison, Jr. and Martin Harrison; one sister, Arlene Coffee (Harrison); mother-in-law, Laura Wright; three sisters-in-law, Karlena Harrison, Deborah Spencer, and Cheryl Fields; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Coffee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Reverend Kurton E. Harrison, Sr. leaves behind a legacy to be admired and imitated. Though he is gone from our sight, he remains forever in our hearts, reflected through the family he loved so dearly. His life was a song well sung, and its beauty will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will surely be missed.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.
