Mrs. Janice Marie Ward Artis

Mrs. Janice Marie Ward Artis, 62,  of  923 Raleigh Road Parkway W., Wilson, NC, passed away on December 29, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at  LN Forbes OFWB Tabernacle, 1800 Lane Street, Ext., Wilson, NC.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017  from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.

An  inspirational wake service was held Friday, January 7, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC .

Mrs. Artis was preceded in death by her parents, James Oscar Ward, Sr. and Virginia D. Beamon Ward.

She leaves many cherished memories to: her husband, Wesley Douglas Artis of the home; four sons, Demond Ward (Natalie) of Elm City, NC, Derick Ward of Greensboro, NC, Kareem Ward of Wilson, NC, and Micheal Hoggard (Dorothy) of Washington, NC; four grandchildren, Rakim Ward, Nia Ward, Juanita Ward and Makyra Hoggard; two brothers, James Ocsar Ward, Jr. (Evelyn) of Elm City, NC and Pastor George Ward (Linda) of Wilson, NC; five sisters, JoAnn Johns (Herbert) of Washington, DC, Julia Farmer (Larry) of Wilson, NC, Phyllis Ward of Stantonsburg, NC, Phyllis Horne (Pastor William Horne) of Stantonsburg, NC and Cynthia Denise Ward of Wilson, NC; two aunts, Evangelist Cleo Suggs of Baltimore, MD and Shirlene Beamon of West Orange, NJ; one uncle, Robert (Bobby) Williams of Baltimore, MD; three stepsons, Darrell Artis of Houston TX, Dezra Artis of VA, and Laconnie Artis of Danville, VA; three step daughters, Danielle Artis of Beaumont, TX, Latosha Pender of Nashville, TN  and Anissa Ruffin (John) of Wilson, NC; a special daughter, A.B.; nine step grandchildren;father -in-law and mother-in-law, Reubin  and Margie Artis of Wilson, NC; five sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Clark of Wilson, NC, Ernestine Young (David) of Portsmith, VA, Rose Summerville (Donnell) of Suffolk, VA, Betty Jones of Ahoskie, NC, and Phyllis Pope (Jocque) of Hampton, VA; five brothers-in-law, Reubin Artis, Jr. of Wilson, NC, Richard Artis (Alether) of Durham, NC, Maurice Artis (Yvonne) of TN, Keith Wayne Artis (Geraldine) of Wilson, NC, and Eric Artis of Rocky Mount, NC;  two very special friends, Lajulius Becton of Stantonsburg, NC and Paulette Sharpe of Wilson, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a special great niece, Tytiana (Shay) Wills.

The family will receive friends at the home where they will assemble on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
