Mary Susan Hall Woodard Obituary

Ms. Mary Susan Hall Woodard, 97, of 7204 Woodbridge Road, Stantonsburg, NC,  passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at her home.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, May 09, 2020 at Bethel AME Zion Church, located at 210 West Broad Ave, Stantonsburg, NC. Due to the requirements of the Governor's Executive Order regarding the number of people in a funeral service, the funeral service will be private.

A public walk-through has been scheduled for Friday, May 08, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr., Parkway, Wilson, NC.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Katie Farmer Hall, her husband, John Lee Woodard, her beloved son, Willie Lee Woodard, Sr., her siblings, Ernest “Brownie” Hall, Sr., William “Bill” Hall, Sr., Rennie Hall Ellis, Robert Hall, Louis Hall, Sr., John Lee “Al” Hall, Sr., Curtis Hall, and James Franklin “Boomie” Hall.  Special nieces and nephews,  Edgar “Gig” Hall  and Ruth Hall McClain with whom she was raised,  a foster sister, Annie Foster, and her dearest friends, Mother Daisy Bell Barnes Ward, Mother Mary Artis Royall, Mother Gladys Ward, Mother Gladys Brown, and Mother Essie Mae Woodard.

Many fond and cherished memories of Mary will still be held dear by: her daughter, Mary Etta Woodard of Saratoga, NC.  Her grandchildren, Diron Anthony Woodard, Sr. (Tammy) of Nashville, NC, Willie Lee Woodard, Jr. (Samantha) of Wilson, NC, and Jonnetta Woodard of West Chester, OH.  Her great-grandchildren, Diron Anthony Woodard, Jr. of Nashville, NC, Dominique Norel Woodard and Demetrius LeMar Woodard of Wilson, NC.  Her daughter-in-law, Annie H. Woodard of Saratoga, NC.  Her foster daughter, Earldine “Pete” Marshall of Southern Pines, NC.  Her surviving nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored and loved: Arthur Bray, Fronnie Mae, Joyce, Harold, Milton, Mary, Shirleen, Robert Jr., Andrew, Grace, JoAnne, Louis Jr., Jean , Barbara, Mildred, Patricia, John, Donald, Brenda Kay, Sharon, and Glennie. Many special great nieces and nephews, including Annie Banton (her personal nurse), Barbara McClain, Ronnie McClain, Brenda Hall Copeland, Ava Hall (her personal songstress), Belinda Hall Dixon, and Edgar Earl Hall.  Two special cousins, Leslie Barnes of Stantonsburg, NC and Ethelene Rodgers of Wilson, NC.  Several adopted sons and daughters, including  Andrew “June” Woodard, Carol Woodard, Henry Lee Suggs, Monica Suggs, Clavon Ellis, Delores Hall-Drummond, William “Trainer”  Horne, Margie Horne, Shirley Horne, Freeman Artis, and Teddy Whitted, and special community friends, Bill and Marie Edmundson, and Betty Reynolds all of Stantonsburg, NC.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, located at 1820 Martin Luther King Jr., Parkway, Wilson, NC.
