Gladys Staton

Mrs. Gladys Staton, 93, of Pinetops, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Association Center, 3033 Bynum Road, Pinetops, NC.  Elder Cory Everette will officiate and burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Garden, 4965 US-258, Farmville, NC.

The public visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2022 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.  At other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Katie Staton, 758 Hwy. 111-122 South, Tarboro, NC where they will also assemble on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.    

Mother Staton was preceded in death by: her parents, Frank Dawes and Nancy Reid Dawes; her husband, John Dorsey Staton, Sr.; her children, John Dorsey Staton, Jr. and Willie Cleveland Staton; her sisters, Catherine Harris, Betty Mitchell, Lizzie Dawes, and Reatha Bell Atkinson; her brothers, Frank Dawes, Jr., Jack Dawes, Jasper Dawes, and Lee Vance Dawes.

Precious, lasting memories will forever be cherished by: her children, Charlie Junior Staton (Katie) of Tarboro, NC, Annie Ruth Staton Gilbert of the home, Joseph Staton (Ernestine) of Tarboro, NC, Dorothy Massey (Grady) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Gladys Scott (Lee) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sherlene Staton Woodson of Arlington, Texas; sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Leah S. Vines, Annie Mae Ellis both of Pinetops, NC, and Catherine Wooten of Baltimore, MD; two brothers-in-law,Tommie Lee Staton of Wilson, NC and James Staton of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
