Mr. Elbert Hawkins, Jr., 64, of 309 Reid Street, N., Wilson, NC, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020, at his home.
The funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends, the service has been changed from Suggs Christian Temple to L. N. Forbes Tabernacle, 1800 Lane Street Ext., Wilson, NC. Bishop Percell Cooper will deliver the eulogy and Minister Derrick Roberts will preside. There will be a public viewing Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC and from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at L. N. Forbes Tabernacle. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence where they will also assemble Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in preparation for the funeral procession. The burial is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1717 Lane Street Ext., Wilson, NC. All attendees are asked to meet the family at Rest Haven Cemetery Thursday at 11:00 a.m. for the burial service.
Mr. Hawkins, or "Hawk" as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Hawkins, Sr. and Annie Marion Gay Hawkins; one brother, Tony Barnes and one sister, Sharon Ann Roberts.
He leaves many precious and loving memories to: his dedicated and devoted wife of forty-two years, Nina Mae McCoy Hawkins of the home; three sons and their wives, Deryle McCoy and Robyn McCoy of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Elbert Hawkins, III and Jeanna Hawkins of Jamestown, NC and Eddie Hawkins and Dilya Hawkins of Wilson, NC; two daughters and their husbands, Quintina Dingle and Ron Dingle of Jacksonville, NC and Cheronda Benson and Dr. Thomas Benson of Raeford, NC; fifteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Barnes of Temple Hill, MD, Ronald Barnes of Decatur, GA and Darwin Barnes of Chicago, IL; one aunt, Velma Gay of Garner, NC; two brothers-in-law, Jimmie McCoy of CT and Alfonza McCoy and Wanda McCoy of Wilson, NC; five sisters-in-law, Ruby Sanders of Wilson, NC, Barbara Duncan of CT, Donna Roberts and Jerrold Roberts of CT, Mary Lucas of Charlotte, NC and Thelma King of Rocky Mount, NC.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.
