Mrs. Ada Louise Atkinson Harris, 95, of 305 S. Pender Street, Elm City, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson, NC.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Vaughn's Chapel Church, 4966 Elm City Road, Elm City, NC. Bishop Linwood Batts will officiate and the burial will follow in Hamilton Burial Garden, Lane Street Ext., Wilson, NC. The public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends for an inspirational wake from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Harris; parents, Walter Atkinson and Estella Cobb Atkinson; four sisters, Emma Lee Meeks, Alice Manning, Minnie Lee Barnes and Esther High; and one brother, Walter Atkinson, Jr.
She leaves many loving and cherished memories to: one daughter, Beulah Harris Wilkins of Rocky Mount, NC; one son , Harvey Lee Summerlin of the home; four grandchildren, Jo-Ann Wilkins of Rocky Mount, Phyllis Wilkins Woodruff of Tobaccoville, NC, Tabetha Summerlin of Tarboro, NC and Harvey Lee Summerlin, II of Wilson, NC; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Fannie Powell of Wilson, NC and Annie Doris Jones of Philadelphia, PA; five brothers, William "Buck" Atkinson of Richmond, VA, Bobby Ray Atkinson of Elm City, NC, Clifton "Bill" Atkinson (Rosa) of Wilson, NC, Clarence"Joe" Atkinson (Blossom) of New Haven, CT and Rev. George Thomas Atkinson (Carrie) of Sims, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a special adopted daughter, Carolyn Summerlin of Wilson, NC; three adopted grandchildren, Charlene Hart, Cassandra Wilkins an Calil Wilkins and a special caregiver and friend, Jennifer Brown of Wilson, NC.
