Hazel V. Williams Blackwell, 90, of Wilson, NC passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Curis of Wilson formerly Avante Nursing Facility. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at L. N. Forbes Tabernacle, 1800 Lane Street Ext., Wilson, NC. Bishop-Elect Ernestine H. McGee will deliver the eulogy and burial will follow in Hamilton Burial Garden, Lane Street Ext., Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Blackwell, Sr.; her parents, Leonis and Lutoria Hocutt Williams; two brothers, James Aldophis Williams and Johnnie "Wilbert" Williams and one sister, Audrey Williams Boykin.
Mrs. Blackwell leaves many loving and cherished memories to: six children, five sons and one daughter, Kenneth A. Blackwell, Jr. and his wife, Annie, Matthew E. Blackwell and his wife, Wilma, Willie R. Blackwell and his wife, Shirlene, Walter G. Blackwell and his wife, Gladys, and Deborah A. Blackwell, all of Wilson, NC and Kelvin "Leon" Blackwell of Waldorf, MD; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond O. Williams of Rocky Mount, NC; one sister, Grace J. Williams-Ruffin of Wilson, NC; a special niece, Pamela J. Monroe of Wilson; a special Godson, William "Buster" Blackmon of Nash County, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The public viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 6, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC and the family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Faith Temple United Holy Church, 402 Minchew St., Wilson, NC for an inspirational wake. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Willie R. Blackwell, Sr. and Shirlene Blackwell, 5200 Durban Dr., Wilson, NC and will also assemble there on Saturday at 12 noon in preparation for the funeral procession.
