Gladys Herndon

Mrs. Gladys Herndon, 76, of 506 Pike Street, Wilson, NC, passed away on  Monday, May 6, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, NC.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Shady Grove F.W.B. Church, 401 Shady Grove Church Road, Snow Hill, NC.  Pastor Anthony Mitchell will officiate and burial will follow in Shady Grove Memorial Garden, 401 Shady Grove Church Road, Snow Hill, NC.  The public viewing will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC and at Shady Grove F.W.B. Church on Saturday from 11:00a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Dixon and Lillian Sheppard Dixon; her siblings, John Henry Dixon and Hazel Lois Ormond.

She leaves many loving and cherished memories to:  her husband, Leon Herndon, Sr. of the home; one daughter, Faith Bynum of Hookerton, NC; three grandchildren, Devyn Brewington, Daryn Parker and Dasya Parker; two great grandchildren, Devaun Brewington and Daryn Parker, Jr.; four step children, Mary Rochelle Dublin (Hezekiah) of Zebulon, NC, Leon Herndon, Jr. of Sims, NC, Demeka Herndon-Lee (Terry) of Rocky Mount, NC and Ashley Herndon of Raleigh, NC; six step grandchildren, Justice Herndon, Brittany Herndon, Lelyn Herndon, Layla Herndon, Justice Anthony and Hezekiah Dublin; nine sisters, Annie Doris McCain of MD, Flossie Irene Capers of NY, Pearlie Mae Hines of Snow Hill, Nadine Artis of Snow Hill, Neva Lee of Washington, DC, Lozetta Gaines of Rocky Mount, Edna Humphrey and Kathy Speaker, both of Charlotte and Connie Lanier (Benjamin) of Snow Hill, NC; six brothers, William Dixon of Snow Hill, NC, Willie Earl Dixon (Ethel) of LaGrange, NC, Dennis Dixon of Snow Hill, NC, Alvin Dixon of Snow Hill, NC and Christopher Dixon (Carolyn) of Charlotte, NC and David Brown (Arlena) of Snow Hill, NC; two aunts, Doris Dickens and Ruby Frazier, both of Snow Hill, NC; one uncle, Levi Dixon of Ft. Wayne, IN; seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louegie Herndon (Julia), Bertis Lewis (Jackie), Jonathan Herndon, Carl Herndon (Cathy), Mary Edmundson (Steve), Demont Herndon and Lamont Herndon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services are being handled by Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
