Frances N. Stewart Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances N.  Stewart, 91, Is scheduled for Friday, November 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm and will be held at The Point Church, 1503 Walnut Street, Cary, NC.  The funeral message will be delivered by Brandon Ball.  Mrs. Stewart will be laid to rest with her husband of nearly 68 loving years, George William Stewart Jr. on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Sandhills Veteran Cemetery, Spring Lake, NC.

Frances Harriett Nickles Stewart was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on March 6, 1928, the only and much-loved child of Mary Agnes Harle and Francis Harrison Nickles.

Ever inquisitive and an accomplished student, Fran graduated high school at age 16, and attended Kings College in Bristol, Tennessee. She never lost her love for her favorite subject, literature, reading voraciously into her 90’s.

At the end of World War II, she met the love of her life, George William “Bill” Stewart, Jr. They married on September 21, 1946. Their early years were spent in Harrisburg, PA before moving to Raleigh, NC in 1953. They celebrated nearly 68 years of marriage together until July 2014 when Bill went to be with the Lord, a loss she never got over.

Twelve children were born to them over 19 years, seven sons and five daughters - Stephen Nickles, Robert Bowen, George William III, Mary Josephine, Laurinda Louise, Joseph Morrow, Michael Dominic, Frances Harriett, David Brian, Jacqueline Marie, Patricia Jeanne and John Gerard. She loved every addition to the family as though they were her own, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law who all called her mom. To these were added, 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way and 2 great-great-grandchildren. All because two people fell in love.

Fran’s love for her family was surpassed only by her love for the Lord Jesus which overflowed in daily study of His word and in prayer. She was never afraid to strike up a conversation about Him with anyone and prayed for everyone she met. She loved God’s creation and reveled in fall colors and mountain drives. Her happiest times were being surrounded by her loved ones. She thrived on visits and enjoyed cooking and baking endlessly whenever anyone was expected. We will never forget her sticky buns, homemade bread, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, Christmas cookies or all occasion cake to name only a few.

Our dearest mommy, you were the epitome of beauty and grace. You loved without limits. You will never be forgotten, ever present in the joy, laughter and hearts of your children. Praising our Heavenly Father for taking you home with Him, discarding your pain and sorrow, making you whole forever. Hug our daddy for us. We will see you on the other side.

The public visitation will be on Friday, November 1, 2019 at The Point Church beginning at 12:30 pm.

Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.
