Ms. Cassie Smith Taylor, 85, of 199 Pearsall Lane, Dudley, NC, formerly of Wilson, NC passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Willow Brook Nursing & Rehab in Goldsboro, NC. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Holy Church, 600 E. Pine Street, Goldsboro, NC. Pastor Willie Lewis will officiate and burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park, N., 1191 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro, NC.
There will be a public viewing Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Eastern Star memorial rites beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
Ms. Taylor was preceded in death by: her parents, Lawyer Smith and Minnie F. Smith; her foster parents, Elder Kidd Wiley and Annie Wiley, who did a wonderful job in rearing her; seven sisters, Laurel Smith, Minnie Bell Smith Chestnut, Ardelia Smith Wilson, Ruby Smith Covington, Lucinda Smith Pearsall, Armetta Smith Barnes and Carrie Smith Hamilton; three brothers, Isaiah Smith, Walter Smith and Amos Smith.
She leaves fond memories to: her nephew and caregiver, Rod Chester Smith, and his wife Cynthia of Goldsboro; one daughter, Joann Battle of Dudley, NC; two grandchildren, Cherron Wooten and Tomika Glaspie and husband Bobby of Dudley, NC; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a God-sister and caregiver, Elder Christine Davis and her husband, Donald of Seven Springs, NC; a God-brother, Donnie Madden and his wife Debra of New Bern, NC; several God-children including two very special God-children, whom she spent a lot of precious time with, Velecia Williams and her husband, Harry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Joann Battle, 110 Shirley Drive, Dudley, NC in preparation for the funeral procession.
Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
