Obituary

Sergeant Ernest Linwood Blackston, 68, of 1003 North Gold Street, Wilson, NC passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Accordius Health in Wilson, NC.

The graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1717 Lane Street, Wilson, NC.

A public walk through viewing is scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.

Ernest was predeceased by:  two brothers, Moses Blackston in 1995 and Pleasant Earl Blackston in 2008, and two sisters, Earlene Mae Jewel Blackston Williams in 2012 and Mildred Mae Blackston Funderburke in 2017.

He was married to Barbara Corbett Blackston, and from this union one son was born, Dante Emile Blackston. Ernest’s heart extended to his beloved daughter-in-law, Colleen Ervin      Blackston, and one wonderful grandson, Titan Alexander Blackston, who affectionately called him 2-Pop, a play on both Pop-Pop and 2Pac; two brothers, John Blackston (Ossie) and James Blackston both of Baltimore, MD; four sisters, Katie Doris Moore of Wilson, NC, Carolyn Varner (James) of Cincinnati, OH, Claudia Simmons (Tony) of Charlotte, NC and Connie Lucas  (Johnny) of Elm City, NC; six aunts, Romaine Blackston of Wilson, NC, Maggie Blackston of Louisville, KY, Lillie Battle and Alma Manning both of Rocky Mount, NC, Joanne Bandy of Whitakers, NC and Rosa Atkinson of Wilson, NC; five uncles, Elder Larry Gunter of Nashville, NC, Leroy, Jimmy and Tony Gunter, all of Rocky Mount, NC, and Cashie Farmer of Elm City, NC; and a host of amazing nieces and nephews, whom he loved like his own children, dear cousins and close friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.
