Mr. Franklin D. Oates, 70, of Maryland, passed away  on May 14, 2017 at Southern Maryland Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Contending For The Faith Church Ministries, 1006 Academy Street, Wilson, NC. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Lane Street Ext., Wilson, NC.

A Public visitation will be held on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC. 

Otis was preceded in death by his parents; Isaac Williams Jr. and Eula Mae Peagues Oates Harris; three sisters, Betty Jean Blackston, Veronica Faye Oates and Brenda Lee Blackston Atkinson; one brother, Larry Williams and his stepfather, Noah Harris.

He leaves his everlasting loving memories to his devoted and beloved wife, Ann Silver Oates of the home; his precious daughter, Shannon Charmaine Oates of Wilson, NC; two grandchildren for which he felt the sun rose and set in them, Jiani Charmaine Oates and RaeVyn NY’Asia Oates both of Wilson, NC; seven sisters; his twin, Frances Oates Silver (Bobby) of Wilson, NC, Peggy Lee Joyner of Lucama, NC, Renee Oates of Spring Hope, NC, Sherill Edwards (Otis) and Carlette Atkinson (Robert) both of Wilson, NC, Sally Patricia Oates of Silver Springs, Md. and Ann Foreman of Brooklyn, NC; five brothers, Duarthur Oates (Priscilla), William “Bill” Oates (Sheran), Johnny Oates (Kathryn), Isaac Williams III (Brenda) and Ricky Williams all of  Wilson, NC; one aunt, Glenda Eatmon of High Point, NC and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including his best friends, Virgil Smoot of Washington, DC, Mack McDaniel and Temple Hill, Md., Earl Fuller of Capital Heights, Md and Mr. “C” of Maryland.

The family will receive friends at the home, 4627 Landfill Road, Wilson, NC, where they will assemble on Saturday at 12:00 noon in preparation for the funeral procession.

 Arrangements are by Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Wilson, NC.
