Dorothy Dot Gorham

“A chapter completed, a page turned, a life well lived, a rest well earned.”

Therefore it pleased the Almighty God on Friday, May 13, 2016 to call home our beloved Dorothy Ann Gorham. “Dot” as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Gorham and Evangeline Hines Gorham.

Born on February 14, 1960, in Pitt County, North Carolina where she spent her early years before moving with the family to Wilson, North Carolina. There, she continued her education in the Wilson County School Systems, graduating from Saratoga Central High School in Saratoga, North Carolina. Dorothy furthered her education and attended Wilson Community College.

Dorothy confessed her love for Christ and became of member of Mt. Moriah Church in Farmville, North Carolina under the leadership of the late Dr. Wheeler and later the late Reverend Otha Hayes. She was a member of the young adult choir and various auxiliaries. 

She was employed for several years at Bridgestone Firestone and later held various jobs. Dorothy was a caregiver, homemaker and gave of her time, talents and treasures to care for the sick and those in need. Her love for beauty was manifested in her home.  She enjoyed decorating and cleaning.

Dorothy was known for having a great sense of humor and being a fun, loving person who enjoyed being around children, family and friends.  She would speak her mind but had a heart of gold. Dorothy was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her especially the White Oak Community.

Dorothy was preceded in death in addition to her father, brothers Kenneth L. and Robert L. Gorham; paternal grandparents, Elmo and Rosa Gorham and maternal grandparents, Lawyer Williams and Ora Bell Hines.

 Those left to cherish her loving memories are:  her mother Evangeline Hines Gorham of Wilson, North Carolina; five brothers; Bobby L. Gorham (Selma),  David Gorham, John F. Gorham (Regina) all of Wilson, North Carolina, Jamal Gorham (Latasia) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Malik Gorham of Greenville, North Carolina; one sister, Jeanette Janet Pittman (Lee) of Greenville, North Carolina; nine nieces and nephews; Natasha Gorham Grant (Reggie), Bobby S. Gorham (Jacinthia),  Antonio L. Locus,  Jonathan Davis,  Shanique Gorham,  Jamilah Gorham,  Anikko Gorham,  Zy’Vion Gorham all of Wilson, North Carolina and Latwone  Mizelle (Brandon) of Snow Hill, North Carolina; three aunts, Mary Teel (Rudolph) of Greenville, North Carolina, Ruby Gorham of Wilson, North Carolina and Mary Gorham of Farmville, North Carolina; three uncles, Elmo R. Gorham (Mary) of Washington, DC, Curtis Hines of Walstonburg, North Carolina and Lester Hines of Farmville, North Carolina; a very special friend, Cool Breeze; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Dot's homegoing service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm.  The funeral service will be held at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.  The committal service will follow in the Hamilton Burial Gardens located on Lane Street Ext., Wilson, North Carolina. 

A public visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 6 pm.
