December 21, 1927 ~ April 22, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Mrs. Charity Yelverton, 89, of the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Wilson, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Brian Center.  The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 108 Baker Street, Eureka, NC.  Rev. Fred Presley will deliver the eulogy and burial will follow in Forte Cemetery, Hwy. 111, Fremont, NC.

Mrs. Yelverton was preceded in death by: her husband, Willie Yelverton; her parents, Willie Dickerson and Charity Forte Dickerson; one son, Melvin Coley; 18 siblings, Lillie Mae Crooms Lofton, Haywood Crooms, Henry Clay Crooms, Lela Crooms Ruffin, Willie R. Crooms, Penny Crooms, Elizabeth Crooms Wells, Dorothy Mae Dickerson, James E. Dickerson, Alma Irene Dickerson Horton, Albert Roy Dickerson, Alfonzio Dickerson, Roscoe Dickerson, Hubert Dickerson, Estella Dickerson Cooper, Jack Dickerson, Abraham Dickerson and Benjamin Dickerson.

She Leave many loving and cherished memories to:  one daughter, Elnora Atwater of Washington, DC; a special great nieces who was also her caregiver, Barbara Kirby (Leander) of Lucama; a special niece who assisted in her caregiving, Minister Mary Pender (George) of Wilson; two special great great nephews, Anthony Kirby and Travis Kirby, both of Lucama; a special great great great niece, Leanna Kirby of Lucama; one sister-in-law, Minnie D. Garris (Ed) of Wilson; her best friend and roommate, Idalyne Ellis; and a host of other wonderful nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and great great great nieces and nephews.

A public viewing will be held Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC and the family will receive friends for an inspirational wake on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 108 Baker Street, Eureka, NC.

The family will receive friends at the home of her niece and nephew, Barbara and Leander Kirby, 7200 Neal Road, Lucama, NC where they will also assemble on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.

Services are being handled by Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
